Dentist

This week we have been learning all about the dentist and how they help us to look after our teeth.

The role play corner had been set up as a dentist surgery and the children took it in turns to pretend to be the dentist, patient or receptionist.

We talked about the importance of keeping our teeth clean and eating healthy food to protect them.

The children loved experimenting with the toothbrushes and toothpaste and pretended to brush the teeth on the poster. They also used the dolls in the classroom to learn how to brush teeth correctly.

We have loved spending time outside this week even when it rained. The children experimented with mark making by painting outside on the fence. They used sponges feathers and lots of other tools to make different patterns.

Police

This week we have been learning all about the police force and how they help us when we are in danger. We read a book called 'Burglar Bill' by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.

The children made character descriptions and wanted posters for the naughty burglars.

One of the children's favourite activities was investigating finger prints using a variety of paint colours. They talked about how finger prints help the police to catch people who have committed a crime.

They enjoyed creating their own police station out of a huge cardboard box, and also made police identity cards and badges.

Firefighters

This week we have been learning all about firefighters and how they keep us safe. We learnt the special number to call in an emergency is 999.

We made our own fire station using junk modelling materials and firefighters using paper towel tubes.

It was fun experimenting outside and pretending to be firefighters. We pretended that the bikes were fire engines and used the sponges to wash them down.

We experimented with hot fire colours and enjoyed mixing them and making patterns on the playground floor.

Exploring in the snow

The children in school provision this week had a wonderful time outside exploring in the snow. They found huge pieces of ice and decided to experiment to see what would happen if they put them in the classroom.

They made predictions and observed the changes throughout the afternoon.

When they checked the ice at home time it had melted into a huge puddle!

Making snowman sculptures

The children were exploring different textures and making snowman sculptures.

We talked about how each material felt as they experimented. We included the days phonics activities mark making the letter 's'.

Mixing colours

We had a wonderful afternoon experimenting with mixing primary colours together.

The children were making finger prints related to the 'People who help us' topic.

They were so excited to describe the secondary colours that they had made.

Role play at the Doctors surgery

As our new topic is 'People who help us' we have been exploring the new role play area.

The children have been taking it in turns to be the receptionist, doctor and patient.

They have been mark making to make appointments and write prescriptions.
